WWE might have missed the mark with Sunday’s pay-per-view, but that hasn’t been the case the last two nights. Following WWE Fastlane, both “Monday Night Raw” and “SmackDown Live” have created some buzz for what looked to be an underwhelming WrestleMania 33 card.

It was far from a perfect episode, but “SmackDown Live” advanced several storylines heading into WWE’s biggest show of the year. That includes three championship matches and a feud involving the program’s top star.

The WWE Championship Match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt was finally made official when Orton beat AJ Styles in the “SmackDown Live” main event. It’s just another step in setting up the long rumored WrestleMania match between Styles and Shane McMahon, who had a confrontation after the show went off the air, as seen on “Talking Smack.”

There’s no getting around the fact that putting Styles against Shane seems to be a missed opportunity. Styles is arguably the greatest performer in all of professional wrestling at the moment, and he should be featured against another top wrestler on WWE’s biggest stage.

With that being said, the Styles-Shane feud will probably be more interesting than it first appeared it might be. Styles has a legitimate gripe against Shane--he’s still never received his one-on-one rematch for the WWE Championship, and his title opportunity was taken away just a week after he won a No.1 contender’s match. Styles should be able to get a good match out of Shane, and he could soon be on his way towards a babyface turn that will make him an even bigger star in WWE.

The feud between John Cena and The Miz also heated up Tuesday night. It’s not the ideal use of Cena, who should be facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, but there’s no denying that this storyline has been entertaining, at least for the first two weeks.

The challengers for Alexa Bliss’ SmackDown Women’s Championship and Dean Ambrose’s Intercontinental Championship weren’t officially announced, though it isn’t difficult to figure out who the champs will face. Bliss could take on four WWE superstars at WrestleMania 33, and Ambrose might only face Baron Corbin after two straight years of IC Title ladder matches at WrestleMania.

Wyatt didn’t appear on Tuesday’s edition of “SmackDown Live,” and there were no men's tag team matches on the show.

Here are the results from WWE’s “SmackDown Live” on March 7, 2016:

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan announce the “SmackDown Live” main event

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan spent the first segment of the show announcing that Orton would face Styles in the main event for the right to have a WrestleMania match against Wyatt, even though WWE made that very announcement on social media last week. With Orton winning the Royal Rumble and Styles defeating Luke Harper in last week’s No.1 contender’s match, both have an argument for getting a WWE Championship shot on April 2.

Bryan said if it was up to him, he would give Orton the match against Wyatt. Shane said he thinks Styles deserves a title match, which is somewhat curious considering he’s about to enter a feud with the one-time WWE Champion. Styles confronted Bryan and Shane after the commercial, promising to beat Orton later in the night.

John Cena & Nikki Bella defeat James Ellsworth & Carmella

Cena and Nikki quickly won their first ever mixed tag team match as a couple. As Cena hit Ellsworth with an Attitude Adjustment, Nikki hit Carmella with a Rack Attack 2.0. They both locked in STFs simultaneously, forcing Ellsworth to tap out.

The celebration was short-lived, however, as they were quickly attacked by The Miz and Maryse. The Miz cut a promo on Cena, claiming he was jealous of The Miz and Maryse being WWE’s “it couple” and accusing him of fabricating a relationship with Nikki. The Miz cut another worked-shoot promo on Cena on “Talking Smack,” and it should be fun to watch two of the best talkers in WWE trade barbs over the next few weeks.

Randy Orton Interview

There wasn’t a whole lot to take from this segment. Orton said that nothing would stop him from facing Wyatt at WrestleMania, predicting a win over Styles in the “SmackDown Live” main event.

Dean Ambrose beats up Curt Hawkins

Hawkins' latest WWE run continues to be a disappointment. He called out Ambrose, looking for retribution for being hit with Dirty Deeds a week ago. Ambrose stormed to the ring, but he knocked out Hawkins before the match could even begin, allowing the Intercontinental Champion to address his feud with Baron Corbin.

Ambrose cut a promo on Corbin as only he could, calling the heel a “scumbag” and accusing him of having no testicles. Corbin responded to Ambrose on the Titantron, refusing to meet Ambrose in the ring. Ambrose then headed backstage to find Corbin, but he hit Hawkins with Dirty Deeds before doing so for good measure.

Mojo Rawley Interview

Rawley announced himself as the first entrant into this year’s Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, claiming he was looking for his first WrestleMania moment. Dolph Ziggler interrupted Rawley, telling him that WWE doesn’t “hand out” WrestleMania moments. It looks certain that Ziggler won’t be involved in a marquee WrestleMania match, and he’ll likely be relegated to competing in the battle royal, as well.

Apollo Crews also announced his entry into the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on “Talking Smack.” Wrestlers are usually relegated to competing in the match when they aren't involved in a worthwhile feud, though Corbin has seen his career take off since winning the battle royal in 2016.

Baron Corbin attacks Dean Ambrose

After three quick backstage segments of Ambrose searching for Corbin, the IC Champ finally found the man he was looking for. Corbin tossed a security guard into Ambrose, allowing him to get the upper hand.

Not only did Corbin beat Ambrose with a pipe, but he even pinned him to the ground with a forklift. Referees finally showed up to stop Corbin, and the commentators announced that Ambrose was taken to a local medical facility.

Alexa Bliss announces her WrestleMania opponent

In what she called her “Blissertation,” the SmackDown Women’s Champion went down the list of female wrestlers that would not be getting a title shot at WrestleMania. After announcing that Carmella, Nikki Bella, Naomi and Becky Lynch would not be facing her on April 2, both Becky and Natalya came to the ring to confront Bliss.

Following some bickering between the three wrestlers, Mickie James, who accompanied Bliss to the ring, said that the champ had previously promised her a title shot. After Bliss said she wouldn’t be facing James at WrestleMania either, Bryan announced that Bliss would be facing every available woman on the “SmackDown Live” roster at WrestleMania 33. That likely means the match will include Bliss, Becky, Natalya, Carmella and James.

Alexa Bliss & Mickie James defeat Becky Lynch & Natalya

Doing his best Teddy Long impression, Bryan announced that the four superstars in the ring would have a tag team match. It concluded when Natalya turned on her partner and headed backstage. Bliss then tagged herself back into the match so she could score the pinfall.

Upset with Bliss’ actions, James turned on the champ by hitting her with a Mick Kick. James grabbed the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and she might be among the favorites to win the belt at WrestleMania 33.

Randy Orton defeats AJ Styles

Styles cut a quick promo before the match, calling “SmackDown Live” the “House that AJ Styles Built.” He certainly has a point, considering he held the program’s No.1 title for 140 days as “SmackDown Live” consistently proved to be more entertaining than “Monday Night Raw.” Styles also pointed out that Orton is being rewarded after setting Wyatt’s house on fire, saying he’s been disrespected by Bryan and Shane.

Not surprisingly, Orton defeated Styles to solidify his championship shot against Wyatt. Orton delivered one of his most creative RKOs, hitting his finishing move on an airborne Styles after he rolled away from an attempted 450 Splash. It was reminiscent of his RKO on Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31, though not as well executed.

Styles and Shane had to be separated after the show went off the air, setting up their WrestleMania 33 match.
