Xiaomi, among the most innovative Chinese technology companies, has come up with not just Mi Notebook Air and Android TV set-top box, but also products such as an Air purifier and a water purifier. And now it appears that its newest innovation is a smartphone with a flexible display.

The concept was leaked on Chinese search engine giant Baidu, Gizchina reported. The images, however, haven’t been confirmed as authentic. It is rumored to be the company’s flagship Mi Note 2, which is expected to be released soon.

Xiaomi is not the only company reported to be working on flexible smartphone display. LG, Lenovo and Samsung have showcased their displays before.

While smartphone companies have tried to create curved and flexible displays for long, mass production issues and costs have been preventing smartphone manufacturers from a mainstream flexible display handset. The only phone that ever came close to being flexible was the LG G Flex, but it bent very little — not exactly something you could call a flexible display.

Plastic OLED is the only known way to produce flexible and bendable displays and companies like LG have been investing in their development.
