YouTube is updating its app and website soon, and this update will introduce a new way for creators a way to view comments based on their relevance to certain topics or keywords. The Google-owned, video-sharing company is making this optional, but there will be advantages to those who turn on this feature.

Last Saturday, YouTube made another blog post in relation to this year’s VidCon. According to the company, it is working on new features and updates that are primarily designed to promote and support the growth of its content creators. One such feature is going to be introduced to the comments section of the platform.

YouTube stated that the feature brings a new approach to how creators browse comments. The company intends to put a “Popular comment topics” section just above the comments, and all these topics will be generated from the most common and most popular keywords in the pool of comments posted on a video.

YouTube aptly calls the topics as “comment topics,” and per the company they will give users another way to browse comments according to their chosen topics. In a screenshot posted on the blog, the “Popular comment topics” heading is visibly seen above the comments. The most common keywords are then shown in between the two, and users can click on any topic to view all comments that mention the said keyword.

As mentioned above, the new feature is going to be optional. For creators who do not want to see this section while reading through comments, they can just disable the feature or completely delete all individual topics presented there.

The announcement of this new “Popular comment topics” section comes a few months after YouTube launched other features for the comments section of its platform. For instance, YouTube has introduced creator hearts to enable content makers to heart a favorite comment and show appreciation to the fan or viewer who wrote it.

Another feature that was previously introduced to creators was the ability to pin comments to the top of the feed. This one allows users to show their favorite comment to more of their fans. YouTube says that many viewers really like these features as they can ensure personal attention from the creators they are subscribed to or follow.

Interestingly, YouTube is also giving attention to making the comments section more user-friendly. It has come up with tools that allow moderation by trusted community members. There is also another feature, which is still in beta, that withholds possibly inappropriate comments for review by creators.

Despite these new features and the redesign that YouTube is preparing for its platform, the company maintains that existing features will not be removed. Android Police reports that content creators should not worry about the changes since they will not have any adverse effects on how they use YouTube.
