A 12-year-old boy died after a pickup truck hit him while he was sledding in Oklahoma Thursday evening, authorities said.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was sledding on the north side of East Albany Street in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, when he slid into the road, according to a statement from the Broken Arrow Police Department.

After the boy slid into the road, a white truck traveling west struck the child. The truck did not stop and instead "continued west bound on Albany" after hitting the boy, police said.

Emergency personnel responded and rendered medical treatment to the 12-year-old boy on the scene. The child was brought to a local hospital with "life-threatening injuries."

The boy succumbed to his injuries hours later at the hospital, police stated.

According to an update from the department, police have not disclosed the child's identity as his family is still notifying other family members of his death and has requested privacy.

Authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying the person who was driving the truck.

"Video and witness statements indicate that the truck was a 3/4-ton or 1-ton newer-model white pickup with dark windows and extended mirrors," the department said.

Less than an hour after the incident, a second 12-year-old boy was struck by a different vehicle when he was sledding, according to Broken Arrow police.

The second boy was "dragged for an unknown distance" before the vehicle was able to stop, authorities said.

The child was transported to the hospital to have his minor injuries treated. The driver of the vehicle who struck the second boy stayed at the scene, according to police.

The second child is expected to recover from the injuries. It was not mentioned what type of vehicle hit the victim.
