A 38-year-old father was arrested in the western Indian city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, for kidnapping and raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter. Local media reports said that the incident took place last week, when the victim was in her home alone.

The father, who has not been identified, arrived at the girl's home and took her out on his bike. He then proceeded to a friend's house where he raped the minor. When the girl did not return home, the mother filed a complaint in the nearby police station.

Police launched a search operation and after receiving information about the whereabouts of the stepfather, they arrived at the scene and rescued the girl. However, the accused managed to escape.

Two days after the incident, police were able to nab the accused.

Local media Times Now reported that the girl's mother had divorced her first husband -- the victim's biological father -- and later married the accused. However, soon after living together she found out that her new husband was an alcoholic and was unemployed. The duo got involved in several domestic arguments and later the accused decided to stay away from the mother and daughter.

However, he returned last week and committed the crime.

Recently, there have been several child abuses cases reported in India, including many that involved a father raping a minor.

Earlier this week, a 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter twice in two days in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district. The man was charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly raping the minor.

In another horrific incident in the state of Andhra Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her father. The incident came to light when the girl said she was unwell and doctors, who examined her found that she was pregnant.

She later revealed that her father had sexually assaulted her and also threatened to kill her if she disclosed it to anyone.
