A teen suspect in the stabbing of 14-year-old Barnard student Tessa Majors is now in NYPD custody. An official statement from the NYPD was released concerning the crime. However, the teen was not charged with anything and was subsequently released.

According to NYPost, the teen was found in The Bronx area before 8:00 a.m. and was nabbed by authorities. It was unclear whether the break in the case that led to the teen’s arrest was a result of a tip given to authorities. There was also no confirmation if the teen was brought to the 26th precinct in Harlem and if he had a guardian or a parent during the police investigation.

A statement from the police revealed that they are investigating the teenager. A lawyer is representing the teenager, and he is expected not to agree to be subjected to questioning.

As per the source of NYPost, “Since he has a lawyer, he’s not going to give anything up.” Since they would not be able to extract a confession or any statement from the suspect easily, the authorities will be obtaining a DNA sample of the suspect, and they will try to match that with evidence gathered from Majors’ slay.

The crime happened on December 11 in Morningside Park. The manner by which Majors was slain shocked the community.

Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison made a cryptic tweet that the suspect was already located. This led to the developments surrounding the teen’s arrest.

The teen was suspected as the one who stabbed Majors. This was the account of another suspect, 13-year-old Zyairr Davis. However, as per state law, the testimony of one co-conspirator, will not be enough to sustain charges against a suspect.

It can be recalled that as per reports, the suspects were trying to rob Majors, and when she resisted, one of them stabbed her. The account was also given by the arrested suspect.

The NYPD has already conducted a manhunt for the 14-year-old. According to reports, he jumped out of a vehicle when he was supposedly on his way to meet cops to discuss the slaying of Majors. Detectives are now of the belief that the said story was simply a ruse made by a relative to give him time to hide.

The latest development from the police indicated that the teen could be hiding “down South.” Police have already enlisted units that will help track the whereabouts of the teenager.
