A teen boy in India has been arrested for murdering his mother after an argument with her. The 15-year-old boy allegedly committed the crime after his mother, who was upset over his poor performance in exams, insisted on sending him back to the school hostel, reports said.

The incident happened in Erode, a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. The unidentified teen boy was staying in a hostel at his private school. However, he came home recently and refused to go back to the hostel.

The boy's mother, 36-year-old Yuvarani, was reportedly angry with her son over his poor performance in the examination. She told him that he would be sent back to the hostel, leading to an argument between the two, local news outlet The Hindu reported.

Later, when his mother was sleeping, the angry teen reportedly bludgeoned her with a flower vase and a hollow block. The boy's father was away at work during the incident, police said.

Hearing the woman's screams, her 12-year-old daughter came to check and saw Yuvarani in a pool of blood. The girl then raised an alarm, and her brother fled the scene.

The neighbors rushed Yuvarani to a nearby hospital with severe head injuries. However, she was pronounced dead at the hospital, Latin Times reported.

Police officials collected fingerprints from the scene, and the suspect, who was on the run, was later taken into custody, reports said.

Meanwhile, it is unclear if the boy was charged in connection with the incident. Police said the case is under investigation.

In a similar incident in June, a teen boy in India was arrested for killing his mother and hiding her body at home for two days. The 16-year-old boy from Lucknow, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, fatally shot his mother after she stopped him from playing a videogame. The teen boy who initially cooked up a story to cover up the murder later admitted to the crime, reports said.
