Police in Gwinnett County, Georgia, are searching for an 18-year-old suspect accused of killing a high school student earlier this week.

Brendon Young, of Lawrenceville, is currently at large after allegedly fatally shooting 17-year-old Norcross High School student DeAndre Henderson near the campus Wednesday, Fox 5 reported.

The Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) charged Young with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with Henderson's death.

GCPD officers responded to a call of a person shot on Technology Parkway in Peachtree Corners and found Henderson with a gunshot wound.

After rendering aid, they brought the 17-year-old to a local hospital, where he later died, WSB-TV reported.

Authorities said Henderson left Norcross High School during school hours on that day. The shooting did not happen on the school premises but about a half-mile away from the campus, they said.

The victim's mother, Kimberly Parks, said her son was allegedly lured out of school grounds to the area where his body was found, 11Alive reported.

She claimed that Henderson got into a fight, and a person, who was not fighting, pulled out a gun and shot her son in the face.

"It's a hard pill to swallow because I woke up this morning (Thursday) and he wasn't there," Parks said.

"His life was taken over some senseless stuff. It's a parent's worst nightmare," she added.

Police have not released any details on the circumstances of the deadly shooting.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Henderson's family to cover funeral expenses.

Hours after the shooting, Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent Calvin Watts called on the community to come together and find solutions to the violence, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

"The gun violence in our community and around the country is unacceptable. It needs to stop," Watts said. "This violence is entering our schools from the larger community, and we need to respond together."

No arrests have been made yet. Authorities are seeking information regarding the case or Young's whereabouts.

Those with leads are encouraged to contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300. Those who may have leads but want to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, text information to 274637 or visit the Crime Stoppers website.
