NVIDIA is reportedly working on two Shield TVS for media streaming applications at an advanced level.

A recent rumor spread out that there are two NVIDIA Shield TVs that will have a 2019 refresh. Although confirmation of the refresh is yet to be released, it will signal a breakthrough in media streaming as NVIDIA has the most advance media streaming applications.

The first among the two alleged NIVIDIA Shield TV updates expected to have a refresh this year is code-named mdarcy. The name mdarcy is suspected to come from the code name mariko and darcy.

The code name mariko is another name for the revised Tegra X1. The code name darcy in the other hand is a 2017 Shield TV name alternative.

The code name mdarcy appeared on the Google Play Console’s Device Catalog listing with the source code link t210b01 X1 revision hinting that a refresh is on the way. Another factor contributing to the possibility of a refresh is the NVIDIA filing a Class II Permissive Change to update to the 2017 Shield FCC certification.

The second proof of an NVIDIA Shield refresh is the product code-named sif, an alternative for the NVIDIA 2015 release. The product code name can be found at the lkm_loader script file for Linux loadable kernel. As of the moment, sif does not appear as a reference to the TegraOTA app so it is possible that the refresh comes after the launch of new models.

NVIDIA Shield is TV is equipped with Tegra X1 SoC. This technology paved the way for the shield to come to an update of up to Android 9 Pie beginning from Android 5 Lollipop.

Although overpowered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the modern smartphone SoC, Tegra X1 boasts at 4 ARM Cortex-A57 CPU cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores.

The revised TegraX1 extends an updated Nintendo Switch's battery life. Because of its power-hungry feature, A Nintendo Switch has two more hours of extended battery power.
