KEY POINTS

  • Ante Delija and Matheus Scheffel will face off for the PFL heavyweight championship
  • Delija won all three of his PFL bouts this season
  • Scheffel will look for revenge against Delija

Hard-hitting heavyweights will battle for gold and a million-dollar purse at the 2022 PFL World Championship this Friday, November 25th at the Hulu Theater of the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This season's heavyweight final will feature league veteran Ante Delija of Croatia taking on Brazilian newcomer Matheus Scheffel for the right to be called PFL heavyweight champion.

The International Business Times previews the must-see clash between two of the PFL's top heavyweights.

A finalist in last season's heavyweight tournament, Delija turned in a stellar 2022 campaign, defeating Scheffel and Shelton Graves to finish second in the heavyweight standings and secure a return trip to the postseason.

In the semifinals, Delija blasted knockout artist Renan Ferreira in the first round to clinch a second finals berth in as many seasons.

Now, Delija finds himself as the favorite to take home the PFL title and the million-dollar prize.

On the other hand, Scheffel heads into Friday's million-dollar bout with revenge on his mind, as he looks to avenge his earlier loss to Delija.

Following the loss to Delija, Scheffel ended the elimination round on a high note, upsetting 2021 champion Bruno Cappelozza, but initially missed out on the postseason.

Fortunately for Scheffel, he was tapped to fill in for the injured Cappelozza and stepped in to face another late replacement in Juan Adams in the semifinals.

Scheffel knocked Adams out in the third round to claim his spot in the finals.

Now, Scheffel looks to cap off his improbable PFL run with an intricately-crafted belt and a million-dollar purse.

Prediction: Ante Delija repeats history and knocks out Matheus Scheffel.

Delija's stellar 2022 run has proven that he is one of the league's top-tier heavyweights, and he would have been able to prove that last season, if not for Cappelozza.

Scheffel's run to the finals is truly a feel-good story, but unfortunately, it won't have a fairy tale ending.

Delija will end the season the way he started it—by knocking out Scheffel.
