While Americans typically celebrate Cinco de Mayo by drinking and eating at their favorite Mexican restaurant, the holiday could be an ideal time to try out new margarita recipes at home.

Spending the night in to prepare cocktails also gives you the opportunity to learn more about the history of the holiday, which commemorates Mexico’s victory over France on May 5, 1862, in the Battle of Puebla.

Summer Blossom Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Villa One Reposado
  • 3 Gooseberries, muddled
  • ½ oz Lemon juice
  • ¼ oz Hot honey syrup
  • ¼ Crème de cacao
  • 1 Dash Angostura bitters

Directions:

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a rocks glass over a large rock. Garnish the beverage with more gooseberries.

Recuerdo Mezcal Lemon-Lime Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1½ oz Recuerdo Mezcal Joven
  • ½ oz Lime juice
  • ½ o. Lemon juice
  • 1 oz Agave syrup
  • Tonic water
  • Lime Salt (Preheat the oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine ½ cup of sea salt with 1 tablespoon of grated lime zest. Mix it together well and then spread it onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake until dry, approximately 30 minutes. Allow it to cool and store in an airtight container for future use)

Directions:

Rim an old-fashioned glass with lime salt. Add all of the liquid ingredients, except for the tonic water, to a cocktail tin and shake. Serve the beverage in the lime salt-rimmed old-fashioned glass with fresh ice. Top the cocktail off with a splash of tonic water.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Tanteo Tequila (Choice of Tanteo Jalapeño, Habanero, or Chipotle tequila)
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • ¾ oz Triple Sec
  • 1 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice

Directions:

Add ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.

Ingredients:

  • 1½ oz Villa One Silver
  • ¼ oz Lime juice
  • ¾ oz Grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Poblano Liqueur
  • ½ oz Agave syrup
  • 1 Pinch salt
  • 4 oz Soda Water

Directions:

Combine the first six ingredients with ice and strain into a Collins glass over new ice. Top the drink with soda water and garnish with cayenne salt and a dehydrated lime.

Kiwi Margarita

  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1½ oz Mezcal
  • ¾ oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 3 Kiwi Slices
  • 3 Cilantro Sprigs

Directions:

Muddle the kiwi and cilantro sprigs in a shaker tin, then add the rest of the ingredients. Add ice to the contents and shake. Strain the margarita into a rocks glass over a big rock. Garnish the cocktail with cilantro.
