A teacher at a south Florida elementary school was taken to the hospital after she was attacked by a 5-year-old student, leaving her “clearly weak and dazed,” according to officials.

The teacher at Pines Lakes Elementary School, located 15 miles southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale, was found “sitting on the ground against the wall” in a “faint state,” according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department’s heavily redacted incident report, which was obtained by NBC News.

The incident report went on to say that the teacher was able to “blink and breathe regularly, but at no point was able to vocally respond or show signs of a response.”

The student, who was not identified, launched the attack after being removed from the classroom to a “cool down” room, where he allegedly began “throwing things around” and “flipping chairs,” according to the report.

“The way he pounced on her and the way she fell backwards and smacked her head, it was a severe concussion. She's got some other bodily injuries from him jumping on her, attacking her, kicking, punching, biting that's going to lead to surgery,” Broward Teachers Union President Anna Fusco told NBC News.

The special education student is unlikely to be charged for the incident because he’s “under the age of reasoning,” Pembroke Pines police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell told WPLG, an ABC affiliate out of Pembroke Park.

However, the child is being investigated for possible charges of “aggravated assault with hands, fist and feet,” a police spokesperson told NBC News.

The teacher was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, and has since been released, officials said. She suffered a concussion and other injuries from the student, who weighs about 50 to 60 pounds, according to Fusco.

The instructor’s identity was not released. Fusco told NBC News on Monday that she is in her late 30s or 40s, about 5-foot-4 with a slender build.

A statement from the Broward County Public Schools released Monday and obtained by WPLG read, “The safety of our teachers, staff and students are always the District’s highest priorities. There was an incident at Pines Lakes Elementary School on Wednesday, March 2, that resulted in a teacher being transported to a local hospital. The situation was investigated by Pembroke Pines Police and handled in accordance with District protocols.”
