Huawei unveiled its most powerful chipset for 5G smartphone plan. The chipset will reportedly power the upcoming Mate 30 despite the uncertainty if the said phone release will run on the Google Android operating system or not.

On Friday, Huawei announced that it will release its all-in-one 5G system on a chip. The Mate 30 will be the first to have a foretaste of the chip’s power, amidst the controversies and uncertainty that the Chinese tech giant is facing with the next flagship device still unsure of the operating system to come along with it.

Power and Performance

Kirin 990, Huawei’s all-in-one 5G chipset is described as the Chinese tech giant’s alternative to (005930.KS} from Samsung and Qualcomm’s (QCOM.O).

In a speech he delivered in Berlin, Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business group proudly said the Kirin 990 is the world’s most powerful 5G system on a chip. He added that it is the world’s most powerful 5G modem.

Huawei’s most powerful chipset will come with its energy-saving feature and artificial intelligence support. A tiny core will be available for handling less demanding while the big core will be for powerful computing operations.

Kirin 990 boasts at its capacity to support download links at 2.3 gigabits per second, as it is packed with more than 10 billion transistors in such a small size. It is a product of the latest seven-nanometer production process.

Kirin 990 is also equipped with an adaptive receiver that makes it able to choose coverage. Given the scenario that the faster technology seems weak, Huawei’s chipset is able to switch between 4G and 5G, whichever is needed.

When To Expect

It is safe to assume that the Kirin 990 chipset will be a part of the Mate 30 release in Munich. Reports say that the company’s flagship phone September 19 international launch will mark the rising of the world's most powerful 5G modem.

Who Can Avail the Huawei 5G chipset

In order to enjoy the most powerful 5G chipset in town, consumers will be required to have new sets of their handset. For phones of longer existence, an upgrade cycle will be needed.

Google or Harmony

Meanwhile, if Mate 30 will not run with Google Android devices, Huawei’s very own Harmony OS will be on the scene. However, Harmony still has a long way to go with analysts categorizing it as not yet prime time ready.
