A six-year-old died in a tragic accident at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado on Sunday, park authorities said.

The girl got injured at the Haunted Mine Drop attraction that plunges riders 110 feet down a pitch-black tunnel in seconds.

Garfield County Sheriff's Office said the victim visited the park with her family members who are from Colorado Springs, reported CBS News.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. The park employees initiated first aid until paramedics arrived and determined the girl had died, said the Sheriff's office.

In a statement on Facebook, the park authorities refused to reveal the identity of the child. "Out of respect and concern for all parties involved, we will not have further comment until all details have been confirmed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved," the post read.

An investigation in the case is ongoing, the park's general manager Nancy Heard told CBS Denver. "We are deeply saddened and ask that you please keep the family of the deceased in your thoughts and prayers," she told the outlet.

The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, located atop Iron Mountain in Glenwood Springs, will remain closed Tuesday, officials said.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week, said the coroner's office, which is investigating the death along with the Garfield County Sheriff's Office.

The Haunted Mine Drop is one of the major attractions of the park. According to the park's website, the rider would be strapped into a seat and dropped "110 feet inside the dark depths of Iron Mountain in what feels like a free-fall." The ride has a minimum height requirement of 46 inches. One also has to sign a waiver to ride the Haunted Mine Drop. There are no age restrictions noted.

However, the section on the ride has been removed from the park since the accident. The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is the only mountaintop theme park in America.

Recently, an 11-year-old boy had died after a raft overturned on a water ride at an amusement park in Iowa. Another child ended up in critical care following the accident. The accident happened after a raging river raft carrying six people overturned at Adventureland Park in Altoona. The park had maintained that an earlier inspection of the river raft had revealed it to be "sound working order."
