KEY POINTS

  • An issue with the blender part of the unit may pose a laceration hazard
  • Customers may contact the company to receive a replacement blade assembly
  • Around 1,500 units were also sold in Canada

Conair is recalling Cuisinart blender-juicer combos because of an issue that may pose a "laceration hazard." Some 66,000 units are affected by the issuance.

The problem with the affected Cuisinart Compact Blender & Juice Extractor Combos is that the nut "holding the blade assembly of the blender" can loosen up and get detached from the base while being used, according to the announcement on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.

This may then pose the risk of a laceration hazard if the loose blade comes in contact with the user.

So far, there have been three reports of the blender blade detaching while being used. There have been no reports of injuries, but one incident caused the blade to "perforate the blender container."

Customers in possession of a recalled unit are being advised to stop using the blender part, though they may keep using the juicer as these are "unaffected," the company noted.

The recall "only" affects Model CBJ-450 of the Cuisinart Compact Blender & Juicer Extractor Combo. These have a black center hub and silver stainless steel blade, the CPSC noted. They were sold at certain stores nationwide and online from November 2021 until August 2022.

The model number can be located on a label at the bottom of the unit as well as on the original packaging, the company noted. On its recall website, it also provided a photo of what the label looks like.

In total, some 66,000 units are affected by the recall. Some 1,500 were also sold in Canada, where the product is also being recalled in conjunction with the CPSC and Conair Consumer Products.

Those who find they have a recalled unit may contact the company to get a free replacement blade assembly.

"Consumers will receive instructions on how to install the replacement blade assembly after discarding the existing blade assembly, and after verifying disposal of the existing blade assembly," the company noted, adding that tools will not be needed to place the new assembly.

Affected customers may use this form to register for the recall. They may also contact Cuisinart at 877-339-2534 from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
