A Nigerian Air Force officer was bitten to death by a deadly snake that hid in her apartment toilet at an air base. The snake is suspected to have made its way into her toilet through the septic tank.

Lance Corporal Bercy Ogah was using a restroom in her flat at the NAF Base at Abuja in Nigeria when the incident happened Friday, reported Vanguard News.

Local media reports said that despite being bitten by the deadly venomous reptile, Ogah drove her children to safety at a relative's house before reaching the nearby NAF Hospital. However, by then, her condition worsened.

"When she got to the hospital, it took a little while before the anti-venom vaccine was administered to her. Apart from the vaccine not being readily available, I learned that the person in charge of the drugs was not on duty," an unnamed source close to officer Ogah was quoted as saying by Punch Magazine.

The report added that the snake could not be identified, and the woman was bitten on a very sensitive part of her body, which made survival difficult.

According to the source, reptiles and other wild animals were common in the base.

"You will find all kinds of wild animals in the base. People who stay there see snakes a lot. The houses in the base were fumigated recently but hers was left behind because she was not around. The snake must have hidden in her toilet," the source said.

Immediately after the news came out, authorities brought in snake rescuers and the reptile was removed from the officer's apartment.

Local media reports said reptiles thrive in the water tank located at the back of the building block. Wildlife officers believe the reptile might have crawled into the building through one of the chambers located at the back of the block.

Recently, a 47-year-old man was bitten in the genitals by a deadly snake, leaving him with scrotal necrosis, which is an acute necrotic infection of the scrotum. The unidentified man was using the toilet while holidaying in South Africa when a snouted cobra that was sitting in the toilet bowl bit his genitals. The man immediately felt a burning sensation in his genitals and "a pain that ascended through his groin to his flank, upper chest, and abdomen."
