Airbnb is offering 12 people the chance to live like nomads for the next year with its new “Live Anywhere on Airbnb” program.

After millions of people worked from home for the last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, Airbnb was inspired to give a dozen people the opportunity to live in listings on the platform over the course of 10 months.

The company will be covering the cost of accommodations and giving participants a travel allowance throughout the program. However, participants will be asked to detail their experience living in the listings to help the company develop better ways to accommodate nomadic living.

Participants will be able to begin living like nomads from September until July 2022. Those chosen for the program will be allowed to bring up to three companions along for their travels.

“The number one thing people miss is travel,” Chris Lehane, the head of policy and communications at Airbnb, said in a statement to USA Today.

“People are really looking to live their lives on a platform like Airbnb, where they’re able to spend time in different parts of the world and different communities.”

A May report from Airbnb found that in 2021, one in 10 of the long-term bookers were living a nomadic lifestyle, and 5% intended to give up their primary residence and use Airbnb.

Those interested in applying for the chance to live like a nomad for free have until June 30 to submit their applications to Live Anywhere on Airbnb. A panel of interviewers will select 12 participants for the experience during the month of July.

Participants will have the option to host their primary residences on Airbnb throughout the program to earn extra money and test the hosting experience while living a nomadic lifestyle.
