A man in Salem, Alabama, was charged with child abuse for striking his one-month-old daughter in face and head.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to 300 block of Lee Road 2110 in the Salem community on May 11 after receiving a report that a baby was found with bruises and red marks on her head and face area. The officers rushed the infant to a hospital in Phenix City where the baby was treated for her injuries. The condition of the infant was not known.

Meanwhile, an investigation was launched during which the detectives determined that the infant suffered injuries after she was struck in the face and head by her father, 19-year-old Ty Allen Mason.

Following investigation, the man was taken into custody and charged with torture and willful abuse of a child. The accused was being held in the Lee County Detention Center and his bond was set at $10,000.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has asked anyone with any information about the case to contact them at 334-749-5651 or Lee County Crime Stoppers at 888-522-7847. Investigation into the case was ongoing and no additional information was released.

In a similar incident in the same state this week, a man and a woman were charged with child abuse after their two-year-old son died of multiple injuries at the hospital. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a home after receiving a report of a baby not breathing. When questioned, the parents of the boy told the officers that their son began to choke while eating.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead. Medical personnel told the investigators that the child had multiple injuries following which 26-year-old Demetric Hampton Sr. and 24-year-old Terrica Harris were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse in the death of the boy. Harris was the boy’s stepmother.

In another incident earlier this month, a man in Idaho was jailed for throwing his infant baby out of frustration. The four-month-old baby was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Medical tests revealed that there was bleeding in the infant’s brain. During interrogation, the father, 33-year-old Charles Wade Miller, confessed to throwing the infant on his bed out of frustration. He was charged with injury to a child.
