Amazon is amping up its Black Friday 2011 deals on smartphones: the e-commerce giant has just announced that it will be selling all Verizon, AT&T and Sprint phones for a penny.

This deal, and ones like it, had been available for a limited amount of products in the past, but this is the first time Amazon is selling all its smartphones for under $0.01 in the days leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The move is intiated by Amazon's Seattle-based wireless arm, Amazon Wireless. Offering all its non-iPhone smartphones for under a penny, the online megastore is hoping to cash in on pre-orders and carry bargains over into Cyber Monday, with deals holding throughout Thanksgiving Weekend.

The only catch? Customers must purchase a new contract with wireless providers Verizon, Sprint or At&T to get in on this year's Black Friday sales.

The deal is so weighted toward Black Friday costumers that experts are already predicting that Amazon will take a hit this weekend, just as it did with its Kindle Fire. The Amazon tablet went on sale last week for $199, prompting major buyouts as costumers scrambled to get in on the deal. The Wall Street Journal reported however, that estimated costs for parts and manufacturing of the Kindle Fire meant Amazon might be taking a loss with such a good deal for consumers.

The same may be true for Amazon's extended smartphones-for-a-penny sale. The Black Friday strategy however, seems to be part of the corporation's plan for finishing out 2011, targeting as it does both new Amazon costumers and new purchasers for smartphones by Verizon, At&T and Sprint.

“You can’t maintain the remarkable growth in smartphones over the last year-and-a-half, analyst Charles Golvin told The Journal, without finding a new customer base.

The sales push may also re-ignite interest in the Kindle Fire, even as more costumers are drawn to the Web site by its excellent Black Friday deals.

An Amazon spokeswoman could not comment on Amazon sales and pre-orders on the penny deals so far. Teasers from the Web site and various blog sites however, craft a list of smartphones by Verizon, AT&T and Sprint that are likely to sell out fast.
