"American Horror Story" Season 4 will premiere on FX on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 p.m. EDT. FX

“American Horror Story” fans have been obsessively watching the teaser trailers for Season 4, but now a new bite of information on the upcoming season has been released. The synopsis for the “Freak Show” premiere is out and it’s just as juicy and chilling as viewers had hoped for.

The synopsis for episode 1 of FX mini-series teases that the new season will introduce one of the only surviving sideshows in the country. But just because it’s “surviving” doesn’t mean that it’s doing well. Thanks to the “dawning era of television,” the sideshow is struggling to stay in business. However, a twist might turn things around for the group of performers.

“When police make a terrifying discovery at a local farmhouse, the eccentric purveyor of the freak show sees an opportunity that will lead her troupe either to their salvation or ruin,” according to the synopsis.

What is that “terrifying discovery”? It could be anything from a “freak” living in the shadows to a gruesome murder.

As we previously reported, Jessica Lange will lead Season 4 of “American Horror Story” as Elsa Mars, a German ex-pat running one of the last remaining freak shows in the United States. Lange will share the screen with “AHS” alums Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Denis O’Hare, Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson and Gabourey Sidibe. Newcomers for “Freak Show” include Michael Chiklis, John Carroll Lynch, Wes Bentley, Patti LaBelle and Jyoti Amge. Peters, Bates, Bassett, Paulson and Chiklis are set to portray “freaks” or performers in the sideshow, while Lynch and Bentley are confirmed to play villains.

“American Horror Story” Season 4 will premiere on FX on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 p.m. EDT with episode 1, “Monsters Among Us.” Will you be tuning in? What do you think of the premiere synopsis? Tweet your thoughts to @AmandaTVScoop.
