‘America’s Got Talent’
Was Will Tsai’s audition in “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 digitally manipulated? NBC

America’s Got Talent” Season 12 won’t air a new episode on Tuesday, July 4. A new installment is expected to be released on July 11 to accommodate the special Fourth of July programs this week.

But ahead of next week’s episode, one contestant, whose audition aired in May, is being criticized online. Magician Will Tsai impressed judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel with his coin matrix illusion, among many other things. However, his performance did not sit well with a certain YouTube user that goes by the name CaptainDisillusion.

According to Cinema Blend, CaptainDisillusion is well-known for disproving various types of magic acts that are too impossible to be true. His latest target was Tsai, who managed to change the coins he had on the table to rose petals. CaptainDisillusion also claimed that majority of Tsai’s magic tricks are uploaded on YouTube after he edits them to make them look real.

If this was really the case, CaptainDisillusion is suggesting that the producers of “America’s Got Talent” were also involved in digitally manipulating the footage to make it look aesthetically pleasing to viewers. Additionally, Tsai used a black table during his routine, and this is where he placed the coins. CaptainDisillusion said that the table was designed with a series of small mechanisms that made the coin to rose petal effect possible.

In the eight-minute clip, CaptainDisillusion also said that he doesn’t intend to explain Tsai’s actual trick because doing so could lose its commercial value. He also used the example of explaining to audiences how movies are made. But he stressed the fact that the contestant’s magic table was very thick, Tsai’s right foot was mysteriously covered and that the coins appeared and disappeared on the same spot every time.

As of late, Tsai has not yet responded to CaptainDisillusion’s video, and it is also unclear whether or not NBC will comment on the matter. But Tsai is expected to showcase his talents again onstage in the coming weeks.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
