‘America’s Got Talent’
Will Evie Clair, 13, finally make it to the live shows in “America’s Got Talent” Season 12? NBC

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 host Tyra Banks broke the rules on Tuesday night’s episode of the hit NBC reality TV show.

In the past couple of seasons of the talent competition, NBC introduced the golden buzzer privilege that could be used by the main and guest judges on the show. The golden buzzer guarantees one contestant’s spot in the live shows. But last year, “America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon shocked everyone when he rushed down the judges’ table and hit the buzzer for an elderly contestant.

This season, Banks did a similar thing for the Light Balance Dancers. After the group performed an impressive dance routine that incorporated a stunning light show, Banks walked up to them on stage and commended them for their impressive number. The host walked down the stage and judge Heidi Klum cheered her on. Banks hit the golden buzzer for the group, and they will now compete with the other golden buzzer recipients in the first live show.

Meanwhile, the Light Balance Dancers aren’t the only ones who made headlines following Tuesday night’s installment. A 13-year-old girl named Evie Clair tugged at the heartstrings of the judges and audiences when she shared her reason for auditioning in “America’s Got Talent.” According to the Arizona native, she is dedicating her song to her dad, who was diagnosed with stage four cancer last year. Every time her dad would have a bad day, she would sing him a song to help make him feel better.

Evie Clair ended up crying while telling her story, so Simon Cowell asked her to take a few minutes before singing. Banks walked up to her and gave her a bottle of water. When she was finally ready to sing, Evie Clair opened her mouth and all of the emotions came out of her. She sang a perfect rendition of Christina Perri’s hit song, “Arms.” All four judges gave Evie Clair a yes, so she will be advancing to the next round of competition.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
