KEY POINTS

  • "Among Us" received two major trophies during the recent Game Awards
  • It's a very simple yet fun game reminiscent of the old-school game of tag
  • Players will need to master playing as an Impostor, including how to choose the right name

InnerSloth’s “Among Us” was hailed as the best multiplayer game and the best mobile game of the year during the recent Game Awards. This game is so simple, yet it has managed to hook many players and fans to its addictive gameplay mechanics, which is basically just a digital version of the old-school game that kids used to play – tag.

Despite the game’s simplicity and fun, “Among Us” features a level of challenge that’s both stressful and fun. Some players quit rounds before they start, just because they want to be Impostors but were assigned as Crewmates.

And while it’s often easier to win the game as an Impostor than a Crewmate, it’s also a fact that there are some things Impostors need to learn in order to perfect their gameplay. One of these things, Screenrant noted, is choosing the right name.

The right name?

According to Screenrant, choosing the right name in “Among Us” might not seem important, “but choosing the wrong one can accidentally be a major disadvantage.” Using the wrong name can automatically make other players guess that the one playing the role of Impostor is sus, voting him out the next time someone presses the red “emergency meeting” button.

“By being sure to avoid potentially 'sus' 'Among Us' names, crewmates can prove their innocence to teammates, while Imposters can easily trick the lobby into believing they are trustworthy,” the site noted.

Here’s how to avoid choosing the wrong name in “Among Us.”

  • Avoid using an attractive name

Names that attract attention will easily get Impostors – and innocent Crewmates – ejected. These include entertaining puns. Screenrant said that for example, players who use the name “You fool I” so that the game will say “You fool I was not The Imposter” when they get ejected would be more likely to get ejected.

  • Avoid leaving your name blank

Using blank spaces (“ ”) as a name might appear like they are trying to hide something from other players. This will raise suspicion among players and might lead to them ejecting the said player.

  • Use an average, common name

Names that do not attract attention or raise suspicion are always better. Everyday names, like a friend or a classmate’s name, might be a good idea.

That said, names aren’t the only thing to worry about when playing “Among Us.” It’s a game that’s meant to entertain and let players have fun after all.
