KEY POINTS

  • Marco Asensio has been at Real Madrid since 2015
  • He has fallen down in Ancelotti's pecking order
  • He has made 12 appearances for Real Madrid this season

Real Madrid have labeled attacker Marca Asensio at $46 million ahead of the winter window in January.

Los Blancos want to offload Asensio, who has fallen down in Carlo Ancelotti's pecking order amid interest from Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, reported Spanish publication El Nacional.

Arteta is looking to play Asensio alongside Martin Odegaard. The Real Madrid player's primary position is on the right wing but his versatile nature allows him to play across the pitch, either in indoor positions, midfield or even as a false nine.

Arsenal are not the only Premier League club monitoring Asensio's situation at Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are also interested in securing the Spaniard's services in January.

It's not the first time the Reds have been linked with Asensio. Liverpool submitted a $214 million bid back in 2018 for the then-22-year-old winger, according to Sports Illustrated. This time around, Klopp can land Asensio for a significantly less price.

Real Madrid signed Asensio at a mere price of $5.3 million from Mallorca in 2015. The young winger has gone on to win many trophies with Los Blancos, including two La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.

Asensio is yet to play full 90 minutes for Real Madrid in the underway season, having made 12 competitive appearances so far. The Spanish attacker has understood that he is now a mere substitute option for Ancelotti, who prefers to operate with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo on the wings.

Having made a total of 205 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, Asensio has so far netted 40 goals and 23 assists.

It has also been reported that Klopp has personally requested Liverpool to sign Real Madrid's flop forward Luka Jovic. The German head coach has been a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old, who is believed to fit perfectly in the role Liverpool are looking for. Coincidentally, Liverpool once again have Arsenal as rivals in the race to land Jovic ahead of the upcoming transfer market.

Liverpool suffered a 3-2 loss to West Ham on Sunday and dropped to fourth place in the 2021-22 Premier League table.
