Users of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will begin receiving the update to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) starting Feb. 15. Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are shipped with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, but both S6 models are poised to receive the most recent Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade in the next month, Canadian carrier Rogers' Community Forums page reveals.

As of this writing, the exact Android 5.1 Lollipop release dates for S6 and S6 Edge were unavailable. However, the Rogers forum page contains a list of devices that it supports along with current and upcoming OS upgrade status. It shows the expected availability of 5.1 Lollipop is June for the S6 models, BGR reports.

The Rogers forum site also shows that Google Nexus 4, 5 and 6 will be upgraded to Android 5.1.1 firmware very soon. Phone Arena states that the news about Samsung working on Android 5.1 Lollipop for its 2015 flagships had surfaced in the recent past. However, the information from Rogers’ community is concrete evidence that reveals the tentative release date of the firmware upgrade.

BGR further adds that the Android 5.1 Lollipop will not only be made available by Rogers but also by other cellular service providers around the same period. Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring new features to the S6 and S6 Edge, like support for Guest Mode and raw photos.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to fix RAM and overall performance issues. It is also expected to improve the battery performance of the device. Some of the other enhancements that will come with the firmware upgrade include arrival of the silent mode, a fix for Wi-Fi connectivity problems, improved notifications and more, International Business Times previously reported.

According to Phone Arena, the 5.1 Lollipop version is not a major update but it has been developed to fix all the issues that came along with original Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Guest Mode feature that is expected to arrive with Android 5.1 update is already available on the stock edition of Android 5.0 OS. However, Samsung did not include the feature in the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop that comes pre-installed on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
