  • The Reds now have 76 points in 32 games
  • Liverpool will next host Everton in the league

Liverpool FC left-back Andy Robertson has singled out captain Jordan Henderson for praise after their side's 4-0 win over Manchester United.

The game was evidently a one-sided affair in the favor of the Anfield side. Manchester United have embarrassingly lost 9-0 on aggregate across two legs against Liverpool in the 2021-22 Premier League.

The Reds produced an all-round show as they dominated Ralf Rangnick's boys Tuesday. In an interview, Robertson credited Henderson for setting the tone right from the first minute.

"From minute one, I think we were on top, high energy. Off the ball, I thought we were special, I thought we were incredible. Hendo set the tone. Hendo set the tone [in the] first five, 10 minutes with his pressing and with his high energy, and I think everyone just kind of followed suit. That's what a captain does, and Hendo's done it many a time for us and he did it again. I think we all just fed off his energy," Robertson told Liverpool's website.

Liverpool's No. 23 Luis Diaz collected a pass from Mohamed Salah before putting it past David de Gea in the fifth minute. Soon after that, Salah ended his seven-match goal drought as he doubled Liverpool's lead from a stunning Sadio Mane pass.

Ending any chance for the Reds Devils to make a comeback, Mane made it 3-0 in the 68th minute before Salah netted his brace a few minutes before the full-time whistle.

"Obviously we just went for it. Our counter-press was on such a high level and put them under pressure, and the goals weren’t too bad as well," added Robertson.

The 9-0 loss to Liverpool this season is Manchester United's heaviest defeat against a single opponent in a Premier League campaign. Overall in the English top-flight, they had suffered a combined heavier defeat once – 0-11 vs. Sunderland in 1892-93.

Referring to the Red Devils' unwanted record, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he had sympathy for them.

"It doesn't happen often, and I don't think it will happen often. It is not a normal situation. They are not in a good moment and on top have a lot of injuries. When Pogba left the pitch they played without their usual midfield. The pitch can become really big with a lot of offensive players on it. Centre midfield with Matic and Fernandes is not how you want to play. Nothing against the players, it is just not their natural game. We had 70-75% of the ball and they have to defend and that is not easy. I feel a bit for them," Klopp told BBC's "Match of the Day."

After 32 games, Liverpool are placed second in the Premier League table with 76 points, two behind Manchester City. The Reds are next in action Sunday as they host Merseyside rivals Everton in the league.
