The Cody boys are in for a world of tension when they learn Smurf is released and must face the matriarch amid an ill-planned heist. On “Animal Kingdom” Season 3, episode 8, the family must deal with the consequences of their actions.

“The weed heist goes awry and leaves J (Finn Cole) and Deran (Jake Weary) stranded,” the synopsis for “Incoming” teases. In the TNT promo, J is seen speaking into his Bluetooth device to warn those on the receiving end that they have a problem.

While it is unclear what happens to J and Deran, two people are seen jumping out of a plane in the preview and the last viewers seen of the men, they were being sealed in a box that was expected to be loaded on the aircraft. Were J and Deran forced to jump out of the plane earlier than expected due to an error in the heist?

“Pope (Shawn Hatosy) and Billy (Denis Leary) butt heads as Craig (Ben Robson) tries to keep the peace between them,” the synopsis for “Animal Kingdom” Season 3, episode 8 says. In the “Incoming” promo video, Pope yells that he warned them the cops were keeping tabs on the family.

In the previous episode, Pope expressed doubts about trusting Billy to help plan their heist, and when things go wrong it appears, Deran’s father is the first one Pope blames. With Billy demanding credit for coming up with the heist and later skipping town, it appears Pope was right to keep his distance from the man his mother kicked out of their lives years ago.

“Smurf (Ellen Barkin) learns about what J has been hiding from her since she’s been away,” the synopsis for the TNT series states. In a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, Craig, Pope, J and Frankie (Dichen Lachman) sit down for a dinner with Smurf.

The matriarch asks everyone to tell her about their day. However, the table remains silent. She then realizes they don’t want to share details about the job they planned without her. Smurf attempts to change the subject by telling Craig she wants him to take her to see Baz (Scott Speedman), but he informs her there is no grave site.

Smurf states they must put Baz in the ground so Lena (Aamya Deva Keroles) has a place to visit her father and they can mourn their honorary family member. Amid the glares around the table, Smurf makes a toast to Baz as she and Pope have an intense stare down, making it clear their relationship will no longer consist of the loving mother-son bond they once had.

Will Smurf be able to reclaim her spot as the head of the family, or have her boys lost all trust in the woman who once controlled their lives?
