  • Brown had signed in April 2021 a one-year contract with the Buccaneers worth $6.5 million

Antonio Brown is no longer a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, according to head coach Bruce Arians, after the wide receiver left the field during Sunday’s 28-24 win against the New York Jets.

Midway through the third quarter of Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium, Brown was seen removing his shoulder pads and jersey as teammates pleaded with him to stay. He then walked away from the team and made his way into the stadium’s tunnel.

Though his future in the NFL remains unclear, Brown has amassed a considerable fortune in over a decade of professional football. He has an estimated net worth of $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The 33-year-old athlete made around $80.37 million in salary, bonuses and incentives while playing in the NFL between 2010 and 2021, according to Spotrac.

Brown joined the Bucs in 2020. He reportedly earned $1.25 million in total for 2020 and $2.92 million last year, thanks to the $2 million signing bonus he received, according to Spotrac.

It was announced in April 2021 that he had signed another one-year contract with the Buccaneers for a whopping $6.5 million.

Prior to joining the team, Brown had brief stints with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots in 2019. He got kicked off Raiders after several verbal altercations with team management. He was released by the Patriots amid charges of rape and sexual assault. Brown has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Brown played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010 to 2018 after he was drafted by the team in the 2010 NFL Draft. He earned $393,000 in his rookie year with the Steelers and was paid $450,000 in his sophomore year.

In 2012, heading into his third NFL year, the Florida native signed a five-year, $42 million extension with the Steelers that upped his annual earnings to $9 million. He then signed in 2017 a four-year, $68 million deal with the team that paid him $17 million per year on average.

Brown's earnings back then were enough to make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the history of the NFL, until Odell Beckham Jr. later set a new record when he reportedly signed a deal with the Giants that paid him an average of $19 million per year starting in 2018.

Brown played college football at Central Michigan. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time First-team All-Pro.

He was the first player in NFL history to have more than 1,000 yards receiving and returning in a season, as well as the first NFL player to have at least five catches and 50 receiving yards in 35 consecutive games. He was also the first NFL player with back-to-back seasons with at least 125 receptions.

Brown's mid-game meltdown Sunday was just the latest in a string of controversies and incidents in his 12-year NFL career, and fans can’t help but wonder what’s next for the veteran receiver, who has a history of behavior and personal conduct issues.

It can be recalled that Brown had just returned to play last week following a three-game suspension stemming from allegations that he used a fake COVID-19 vaccination card in an attempt to circumvent protocols.

However, it seems his Buccaneers career is over as head coach Arians said of Brown in a post-game interview Sunday, “He is no longer a Buc. That’s the end of the story.”
