  • Respawn will increase the level cap for "Apex Legends" in the future
  • More changes to the progression system are in the works
  • These changes will be implemented over multiple updates

The leveling and progression system for “Apex Legends” is slated for a big rework some time in the future to cater to players who are at max level while improving the overall progression for everyone else.

The current progression system in “Apex Legends” rewards players with Apex Packs and Legend Tokens per level, with the distribution for the former changing depending on certain level brackets. This system is set to change as reported by PSU after a developer answered a community question during Respawn’s AMA session on Reddit on Aug. 6.

When asked about the concerns regarding leveling and progressing past the existing level cap, one of the developers said that they want to implement changes to this system over numerous phases instead of just one big rework.

“First, we are planning to straight up increase the cap with maybe a couple [of] small changes in the mix but we also want to future-proof it with some of the other progression mechanics we are developing that are not yet ready.”

Updates to the progression system will be staggered and deployed over different patches, so players can expect several updates in the future where these systems will be affected drastically.

It’s possible that Respawn may add a progression system similar to “Titanfall 2,” the spiritual predecessor of “Apex Legends.” In that game, players who reached the level cap were given the option to restart their progress by Regenerating, which re-locks all of their unlocked equipment but adds another level counter in the form of Generation Ranks that represent the amount of times players have regenned their account.

Adding a feature similar to Regenning in “Apex Legends” will allow max-level players to once again earn Apex Packs without having to pay actual money. This will also open up opportunities for Respawn to reward players based on their Generation Ranks, which will once again give a meaningful progression path for the most dedicated of “Apex Legends” players.

Changes to the level and progression system can be expected to arrive as part of a new season’s update, where most of the game’s biggest changes are often implemented.
