The iPhone 6S is highly expected to be launched along with the larger iPhone 6S Plus on Sept. 9. The rumour mill has revealed plenty of information on the purported specs and features of the next generation iPhones.

Even though Apple has not revealed any details, speculations are rife that the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus will be coming with major hardware improvements. However, the form factor of both the new iPhones will likely be same as that of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Here are the five major improvements that iPhone fans can expect on the upcoming flagships:

Design

A recent report from 9 to 5 Mac claimed that the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S will not encounter bending problems as both are going to sport stronger chassis that are made are up of series 7000 aluminum. Mac Rumors claimed that the thickness of the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus will be 7.08 mm and 7.3 mm, respectively. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus that were released in 2014 featured slimmer chassis with respective thickness of 6.9 mm and 7.1 mm.

Display

According to Phone Arena, the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus will be coming with higher resolutions screen compared to last year’s iPhones. The iPhone 6 supports 1,134 pixels and 326 ppi on its 4.7-inch display whereas the iPhone 6 Plus supports 1,080 pixels with 401 ppi on its 5.5-inch screen.

However, the 4.7-inch display of the iPhone 6S could deliver 1,125 x 2,000 pixels resolution and 488 ppi pixel density. The 5.5-inch display of the iPhone 6S Plus will likely produce 1,242 x 2,208 pixels and 460 ppi. Both the handsets are also expected to come with 3D Force Touch feature.

Chipset And RAM

The Geekbench score of the iPhone 6S has revealed that it will be powered with the next generation Apple A9 chipset built with 14 nm FinFET technology. It will be coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The A9 chip is expected to house a tri-core processor that clocks at 1.8 GHz.

Camera

The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6S Plus are reportedly going to feature upgraded rear cameras of 12-megapixels. Both the handsets will come with support for 4K resolution video recording. The selfie cameras on both the devices will also be upgraded to 5-megapixels.

Faster LTE

The current iPhone 6 models feature Cat. 4 LTE modems from Qualcomm that offers 150 Mbps download speeds. However, the newer iPhone 6S model will be featuring Cat. 6 LTE modems that delivers download speeds of 300 Mbps. The new LTE chip will also help in extending the battery life of the forthcoming iPhones.
