  • A new mockup of a future iPhone model has surfaced online
  • The mockup is believed to be one of the iPhone 13 prototypes Apple is developing
  • This iPhone 13 mockup appeared days after mockups of the iPhone 12 series appeared online

A new mockup of the alleged iPhone 13 has appeared online, revealing some interesting features that Apple's future device could have – if the mockup is accurate.

Just a few days after showing mockups of the alleged iPhone 12 devices, Japanese blog MacOtakara is now showing a mockup of the alleged “2021 iPhone,” believed to be called the iPhone 12.

The mockup, considered as one of the prototypes Apple is developing, also came from sources inside Chinese retail giant Alibaba. Here's what the alleged prototype features:

5.5-inch display

The mockup features a 5.5-inch display, but has a body the same size as that of the upcoming 5.4-inch iPhone 12 model. The device is able to have a larger screen in thanks to ultra-thin bezels.

Under-Display Face ID

The device has a notch-less design, unlike Apple's current iPhone models. Per MacOtakara, this iPhone model will use Samsung's under-display technology so that it will continue to have Face ID functions. The TrueDepth and FaceTime camera setup will be placed under the screen.

USB-C port

Interestingly, the device has a USB-C port at the bottom, replacing the Lightning port on current iPhone models. This is different from previous leaks that claim the iPhone 13 series will be port-less, using a Smart Connector in lieu of a Lightning or USB-C port.

Additionally, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for making accurate Apple predictions, has said the iPhone 13 lineup will offer a “completely wireless experience,” Apple Insider noted.

Rear Camera setup

The mockup also features a rear camera module with five dots arranged like a cross or plus sign. MacOtakara said “it looks like a module junction for testing various camera modules.”

While it's too early to say what kind of cameras will be included in the 2021 iPhone models, a leaker previously claimed that the series will feature up to four cameras plus a LiDAR scanner. The four cameras will include:

  • A 64MP wide-angle sensor with 1x optical zoom and 6x digital zoom.
  • A 40MP telephoto sensor with 3x-5x optical zoom and 15-20x digital zoom.
  • A 64MP anamorphic lens (2.1:1)
  • A 40MP .25x min ultra wide-angle lens with optical reverse zoom
  • A LiDAR 4.0 scanner

All that said, it's too early to say with finality the features that will be included in the iPhone 13 lineup. MacOtakara itself admitted that the mockup is but one of the prototypes in development, which means things can change at any time.
