A 35-year-old man from Arizona has been arrested for murdering a woman and hiding her body in a duffel bag inside her storage unit for several months, police said.

Brett Puett of Kingman was taken into custody after the police made a shocking discovery on May 28. Deputies found the body of 64-year-old Debra Childers concealed in a large duffle bag inside a storage unit that belonged to Childers.

"Based on evidence and information investigators believe the body to be Debra Lynn Childers, however official identification must be made by the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office. Childers' family has been notified," the news release from Kingman Police Department said.

Childers was reported missing on May 12. Her son, who lives out of state, told the police that he had not heard from his mother for several months. Childers had been living out her vehicle in the area of Kingman and Golden Valley.

An investigation was launched, during which police found that Puett had been driving Childers vehicle and making multiple withdrawals from her bank account over the course of several months.

With the help of Mohave County Sheriff's Office deputies and MAGNET detectives, Puett was arrested when he arrived at his home driving Childers' vehicle Friday evening, reported ABC News. He was taken into custody without any incident.

Puett reportedly met Childers last summer while the two were living out of their vehicles. Investigators believe that Puett shot and killed her sometime in November while they shared a room at a motel in Kingman.

"It is believed that their relationship was platonic," the news release added.

During police interrogation, Puett admitted that he had committed the murder. He also confessed to concealing the victim's body, transporting it to the storage unit, and withdrawing money from the victim's bank account.

Puett was arrested on felony charges of second-degree murder, abandonment and concealment of a dead body and fraudulent schemes and artifices.

Police have not revealed further details regarding the case. They have not sought any other suspect.

Puett remains in Mohave County Adult Detention Facility as the investigation continues.
