Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Ashley Massaro has died, the company said in a statement. The 2005 “RAW Diva Search” winner was 39 years old while the actual cause of death was not revealed by the officials.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” WWE said. “She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”

According to TMZ, Massaro was transported to the hospital from her home in Suffolk County, New York, where she died early Thursday morning. The report claims the death was classified as “non-criminal”.

Massaro’s most high profile match came at WrestleMania 23 when she competed for the Divas Championship against Melina. She also went on to participate in Survivor: China and make the cover of Playboy magazine during her stint with WWE.

The pro-wrestler, who quit WWE in 2008, would have celebrated her 40th birthday on May 26 and looked to on her way to making a comeback after indicating earlier in the year about training and fighting at the New York Wrestling Connection.

WWE athletes from past and present have come together to pay tribute to the former star, especially, former tag team partner Maria Kanellis. Tori Wilson, Mick Foley, current superstars Natalya, Dana Brooke and Bayley also paid tribute to Massaro.
