  • Man Utd have been asked to pay $97m for Jack Grealish
  • Grealish is the current skipper of Aston Villa
  • Villa currently are in the relegation zone in the Premier League table

One of Manchester United’s top targets ahead of the summer transfer window is Aston Villa Captain Jack Grealish.

Since Aston Villa, placed 19th in the Premier League table, are currently in the relegation zone, Man Utd had thought they would give away Grealish for cheap to clear funds for the next season. It is a well-known fact that relegated teams face a major financial crunch when they drop out of the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Aston Villa have made it clear that irrespective of their final position at the end of the Premier League this season, they are not ready to bargain Grealish’s transfer fee of $97m. Despite the negative publicity, Grealish has received recently for his behavior during the COVID-19 lockdown, the 24-year-old Englishman continues to remain in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wanted list this summer, as reported by Mirror.

While the Birmingham side is doing everything to keep their skipper at the club, the player is expected to ask for a move for the sake of his career growth if Aston Villa drops into the Championship next season.

Aston Villa are understood to be in a pretty good position financially as their owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, boast combined assets approaching $14 billion and they will no way let the club be intimidated to let go of Grealish for cheap.

Grealish, who has 24 goals in 174 appearances for Aston Villa, is yet to make his debut for the England national team. However, he is believed to be in Gareth Southgate’s plans in the near future and is tipped to be on par with players such as Harry Maguire.

Aston Villa's determination to stick with their decision ahead of the upcoming transfer window has put Man Utd in a fix. The former Premier League champions could face a hard time this summer window because of the financial impact COVID-19 has had on all the soccer clubs.

Man Utd’s chief executive Ed Woodward has already made it clear that it won’t be “usual business” for the club this summer as they will be on a restricted budget.
