ASUS sold so many ROG Phone 2 units so fast that it had to issue an official apology to those who were unable to get it.

ASUS’ new ROG Phone 2 gaming phone is a hot topic among the gaming community, particularly in China where most players want to play on their mobile phones. The tech giant’s newest offering was highly anticipated that it went out of stock in less than two minutes from release.

According to GizChina, ASUS started selling the high-powered gaming phone, but the sale didn’t last very long. Just 73 seconds after the ROG Phone 2 was launched, Chinese consumers reportedly purchased more than 10,000 units, depleting ASUS’ very own stock in that moment.

After the sale, ASUS had to apologize to the many consumers who didn’t get their ROG Phone 2. This is because the tech giant received around 2.5 million reservations for the device but was only able to release about 10,000 units during launch day.

In a post on Chinese social media Weibo, ASUS officially apologized to excited consumers and promised that the production line and staff working to produce the new gaming phone are “fully committed” to sell more units soon.

GizChina noted that after the first wave, a reservation for the second wave was reopened, and more than 110,000 reservations were made. ASUS promised that the second wave will be on Aug. 4 and 7, and the third wave will be on Aug. 12.

A handheld behemoth

Previous reports indicated that the ASUS ROG Phone 2 is a gaming behemoth that fits in a pocket. That’s because, first and foremost, the device is a smartphone; and because it features specs way more powerful that its predecessor.

The ROG Phone 2 has a 6.59-inch 1080p OLED panel with support for 10-bit HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate. ASUS said the phone has a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, and the lowest touch latency of any phone at 49ms. It also has an integrated fingerprint sensor.

The gaming phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ SoC, which is a gaming-focused chipset capable of providing up to 15 percent higher CPU peak clock speeds and GPU performance. It also has other notable specs like 12GB of RAM, a 6,000 mAh battery, and a 48MP Sony camera at the back.
