An Atlanta police officer was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and her pet dog.

According to Fox 5, Larry Jamel Williams’ girlfriend called 911 on May 18 to report an assault. She told the dispatchers that the accused had assaulted her and her pet dog. The incident took place when the unidentified woman was living with the officer. She reportedly lived with the officer for six months.

Following this, the police officer was taken into custody. He was charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals and battery-family violence. He was booked into Fulton County Jail and was later released on a $2,000 bond.

The condition of the woman or her dog was not known.

Meanwhile, speaking to Fox 5, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that the officer was placed on administrative leave, pending a hearing, and an Office of Professional Standards investigation was opened into the case. No additional details were released.

In another incident this month, a Georgia police officer was arrested for shooting another law enforcement officer while off-duty. Officer Brian Saltzman and the other officer were at a small gathering when the incident took place. Deputies arrived and rushed the officer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Saltzman was taken into custody on second-degree assault charges, as well as misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and prohibited use of weapons.

Earlier this month, a police officer was arrested for beating and choking his wife in front of their children in Portage, Indiana. Police responded to a residence based on a report of a disturbance. The officers were greeted by a child outside the home. The girl told them that her mother needed help.

The woman told the officers that her husband, identified as 38-year-old Dino Pavoni, had struck her several times following which she asked her children to call 911. One of the children had also recorded the incident on a cell phone. After watching the video, police took Pavoni into custody. He was charged with strangulation and three counts of domestic battery.
