  • Wolves are close to signing Barcelona outcast Nelson Semedo for a deal worth $37 million
  • Semedo has the final say in the move, with Barcelona willing to part with him
  • Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo sees the right-back as another option to fill the void left by Matt Doherty

Barcelona's Nelson Semedo could have a fresh start in the Premier League after struggling to find his rhythm at the Spanish club as Wolverhampton Wanderers is now closing in on his transfer.

Barcelona is believed to have been struggling to offload players this summer, with Semedo often mentioned in transfer talks but showing no results. However, the 26-year-old right-back may have found his next club as the Wolves are now close to finalizing a deal worth around £29 million ($37 million) with Barcelona for Semedo., Sky Sports reported.

Semedo and Wolves have yet to agree personal terms, but negotiations are already progressing between the two clubs.

According to the report, the Catalans are willing to let the Portugal international go, and it is up to Semedo to decide whether or not he would like to join the English club.

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who is currently searching for a credible right-back, sees the 26-year-old as another option to fill the void left by the sale of Matt Doherty to Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year deal.

Prior to this update, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo confirmed that Semedo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, discussed a potential transfer deal with Wolves., though Barca's asking price was said to be €40 million ($47 million).

The Wolves may not be willing to pay that much after the club spent £35.6 million ($46 million), its current transfer record, to sign 18-year-old Fabio Silva from Porto earlier this month, BBC reported.

But with Diogo Jota's recently completed transfer to Liverpool, the club received a massive injection of funds for the deal worth up to £45 million ($58 million). Wolves quickly signed Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool for an initial fee of £10 million ($12 million).

If Semedo's deal is finalized, he would be Wolves' fifth signing of the transfer window after the arrivals of Silva, Fernando Marcal, Vitor Ferreira and Hoever.

Barca’s financial hurdles could be the main reason behind the quick progress of Semedo’s exit. However, his absence could leave the La Liga side short at the back department so an immediate replacement wouldn’t come as a surprise as well.
