Despite criticism over his handling of devastating floods, the Mayor of Beijing may be on his way to a promotion. China Daily reported that Guo Jinlong and deputy mayor Ji Lin resigned from their posts, a move that the Association Press believes is part of a governmental reshuffling.

Guo has already been named as the Communist Party Chief and despite the embarrassment and tragedy of the floods, which have left more than 30 people dead in the capital, it appears that transition is going ahead as planned.
