  • Ben Affleck revealed that he has learned a lot after he relapsed from his third rehab stint
  • Affleck feels it was a sign that he needed to get better and not repeat the same mistakes again
  • He will be next seen in the movie “The Way Back”

After talking about his battle against alcoholism in a recent interview with the New York Times, actor Ben Affleck dived a little deeper about his fight against addiction and how it started to affect his loved ones, especially his kids.

Speaking in an interview with ABC, the 47-year-old actor revealed that he has learned a lot after he relapsed from his third rehab stint for his addiction problems. It did not end up doing any good as the video was captured by someone at the time of Halloween, last year. TMZ played that video and everyone got to know that Affleck’s addiction has kicked in again.

The “Live By Night” star further stated that he took that unfortunate accident seriously and saw it as a sign that he needed to get better. Affleck also noted that he will never be repeating that mistake again.

“I did watch some of it [video clip], although not the whole thing. I know what it looks like to be drunk. I do not need to watch any more of it. I really do not want my children to pay for my sins or to be afraid for me, which is one of the hard parts of being the child of an alcoholic,” Affleck said.

The Academy Award-winning artist also recalled the time when he went into a rehabilitation center for alcoholism. Talking about that particular moment, Affleck explained that he was “sober” for a couple of years when he came out and believed that he was only drinking like a “normal person.”

But things went downhill for the actor and he started to drink more and more in the coming years.

“I was sober for a couple of years. Then, I started drinking everyday. I would come home from work and I would start to drink and I would just sit there and drink until I passed out on the couch. And it was really hard for me that I was an alcoholic,” Affleck said.

Affleck’s comments come a couple of days after he noted that all the struggles he was going through in his personal life were one of the main reasons that made him step back from the "Batman" movie. The esteemed actor added that his addiction to alcohol, his divorce from ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and the problems he faced while shooting and promoting the “Justice League” movie forced him to leave the project and work on himself first.

“I showed somebody the ‘Batman’ script. They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you will drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again,” Affleck said.

Affleck will next be seen playing a former Basketball player who has been struggling with alcoholism and is given an offer to coach the team he used to play for.

“The Way Back” is set to hit theaters on March 6.
