The character of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” isn’t a man that’s used to being told “no.” A sneak peek for this week’s upcoming Season 9 episode, “The Meemaw Materialization,” finally shows viewers where he gets it from.

According to the episode 13 synopsis, Sheldon’s much talked about, but never before seen, grandmother decides to come to town for a visit. He’s overjoyed at the prospect of seeing his beloved relative and thinks the moment will be extra special as it will allow him to introduce her to his girlfriend, Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). Unfortunately, the plan doesn’t go off without a hitch as Meemaw, played by famed actress June Squibb, makes it clear that she doesn’t think Amy will be able to give her very unique grandson the attention and support that he needs.

In a teaser clip from Thursday’s episode (below), Meemaw is shown sitting down for a chat with Amy, Sheldon, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco). She begins by praising Penny for her new job and her ability to hold down a husband and a full-time career. When Amy reminds her that she too has both a serious relationship and a vital professional life, she says that it’s not an impressive feat for her given that Sheldon may need someone that’s able to pay a bit more attention to him. The conversation escalates and ends with her bluntly telling Amy she doesn’t like her, much to Sheldon’s dismay.

Meanwhile, the episode will also cover a bit of ground regarding Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and his relationship with Emily (Laura Spencer). After he meets a beautiful science fiction writer at the comic book store, Raj finds himself smitten, forcing his friends Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) to help him figure out his true feelings.

To find out how all these threads eventually get pulled, fans will just have to tune in to “The Big Bang Theory” on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
