Bill Gates was spotted out and about wearing his wedding ring weeks after announcing that he and his estranged wife, Melinda Gates, were planning to divorce.

The Microsoft co-founder was photographed for the first time on Saturday after his and Melinda's surprising announcement earlier this month. In the photo obtained by People, he sported a gray polo shirt and navy pants with a gray sweater tied around his waist. He completed his get-up with black shoes, glasses and a matching gray face mask. The 65-year-old entrepreneur still had his wedding band on his left ring finger.

Bill was leaving the Greenwich Hotel in New York City after flying into Newark Airport in Newark, New Jersey the day prior. During the sighting, he was joined by his and Melinda's daughter Phoebe, 18, and her boyfriend, Chaz Flynn. They were also accompanied by a group of security.

Bill and Melinda share three children together. Aside from Phoebe, they are also parents to Jennifer, 25, and Rory, 21. Earlier this month, they announced that they were getting a divorce after 27 years of marriage.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," Gates and Melinda said in a joint statement that they shared on their social media accounts.

"Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives," they continued. "We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives."

Meanwhile, an unnamed source previously told People that their separation was not a surprise. Their marriage has been on the rocks long before they called it quits, the insider added.

"He could have treated Melinda better," the source said. "He's not a saint, but there isn't one thing that created the final split. It goes deeper than that."

"It's many years of differing views of the world, the foundation, and of life in general, and those things piling up. They are older and each personally looked at life and asked, 'Is there more out there than what I have?'"

High-profile divorce attorneys Harriet Newman Cohen and Martha Cohen Stine believed that Melinda's decision to hire trust and estate lawyers in their divorce could mean that she has different plans from Bill when it comes to their children's inheritance.

"Bill Gates proudly announced to the world he was leaving $10 million to each of his three children, and that the rest of the billions will be left to charity … now that Melinda has control — maybe she wanted to leave more to her children than $10 million each. Maybe she didn’t agree," Newman Cohen said.
