KEY POINTS

  • Sasha Banks and Naomi have reportedly agreed to terms to return to WWE
  • They could return next week to side with Bianca Belair against the newly-formed faction led by Bayley
  • The women's tag belts could be reintroduced at the next pay-per-view event

SummerSlam 2022 was a definite step in the right direction for Triple H’s reign as the new head of creative for WWE, and fans are still buzzing about the many moments that happened during the event.

The combined return of Bayley and formerly-released NXT standout Dakota Kai plus Iyo Sky’s main roster debut to kick off the event had certainly set the tone.

The main event match between Brock Lesnar and undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was also a memorable one since it could very well have been the former’s final match in the promotion after Vince McMahon’s retirement from the business.

A few hours before the August 1 edition of Raw went live, rumors started trickling out that Sasha Banks and Naomi are on their way back to the company.

Wrestling News was the first to break the news about an agreement being reached between the former Women’s Tag Team Champions and WWE.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer also talked about the deal coming to fruition on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Live.

“I am not 100% confirming this, but since everybody is asking about it, I do have one source who is saying that yes, Sasha and Naomi have made a deal to return,” Alvarez reported.

It is a massive turn of events since the pair walked out on the company back in mid-May and now it comes down to how they will be reintroduced to WWE fans.

Currently, the women’s tag team division has been put on ice since the pair disappeared from WWE programming and it has not been given any spotlight since that time.

After SummerSlam, Bayley’s faction with Kai and Sky are one team and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair with Becky Lynch seem to be the two groups to restart the division.

However, Lynch separated her shoulder during the match with Belair and could be on the shelf for an extended amount of time.

This opens up the door for a three-on-one situation with Belair searching for reinforcements to help her take on Bayley’s group, and this is where Banks and Naomi could come in.

The blowoff matches could see Bayley challenge Belair in a one-on-one match for the Raw Women’s Title, while Kai and Sky take on Banks and Naomi for the tag team belts.

While it can be argued that this might be a bad idea since both tag teams could use the win to drive up their momentum, Kai and Sky can comfortably eat the loss while allowing Banks and Naomi to hold the titles.

There is a story to be told here and it could begin as early as next week since the company would likely want to re-debut the women’s tag titles at the upcoming Clash at the Castle pay-per-view on September 3.
