Boris Johnson said he believes Vladimir Putin would not have unleashed a “crazy, macho war of invasion” on Ukraine if he was a woman.

The UK prime minister’s comments on the Russian president came after the three-day G7 summit in Germany.

Johnson sat down for an interview with German broadcaster ZDF and claimed Putin’s gender had something to do with the devastating war that continues in Ukraine since Russian forces invaded their neighbor in February.

He claimed the war is the product of “toxic masculinity” and said, "You need more women in positions of power," The Guardian reported.

"If Putin was a woman, which he obviously isn't, but if he were, I really don't think he would've embarked on a crazy, macho war of invasion and violence in the way that he has," Johnson said in the interview.

"If you want a perfect example of toxic masculinity, it's what he's doing in Ukraine,” he added.

Although G7 leaders "desperately" want the war in Ukraine to end, Johnson said there is “no deal” that is currently available, according to BBC.

Calling the summit “incredible,” Putin said world leaders “got closer and closer" to an agreement as they met in Schloss Elmau, which was the G7 summit’s venue in Bavaria.

G7 leaders mocked Putin as they sat down for their first meeting after the summit kicked off Sunday. The leaders teased the Russian president for being shirtless and riding horses in images previously shared by the Kremlin.

Johnson joked and asked the besuited leaders if they should take their jackets off, according to Reuters.

“We all have to show that we're tougher than Putin,” Johnson told his fellow leaders.

"Bare-chested horseback riding," quipped his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau.

"Oh yes. Horseback riding is the best," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

Following the G7 summit, Johnson traveled to Madrid for a Nato summit, where the focus of discussions will be the war in Ukraine.

The UK prime minister’s office said Johnson will urge NATO allies to ramp up defense spending in light of Russia’s invasion “to restore deterrence and ensure defence in the decade ahead.”
