  • Bernard Hopkins believes Canelo Alvarez will knock Gennady Golovkin out in their third fight
  • Sergio Mora agrees with Hopkins
  • Canelo hopes to fight in September

Former boxing world champion Bernard Hopkins is going all-in for Canelo Alvarez should a trilogy match against Gennady Golovkin happen. With all confidence, not only does the middleweight great predict an easy victory, but he is also casting his bet on the Mexican ending the fight early via a knockout victory over his Kazakh rival.

“I think Canelo has the blueprint definitely from the second fight to end it early. Okay, you beat him twice; now you knocked him out the third time,” said Hopkins per Chris Mannix of DAZN USA.

Alvarez has Golovkin’s number so far, having won in their rematch a year after both settled to a controversial split draw in their first encounter in September 2017.

Former WBC super welterweight champion Sergio Mora could not agree with Hopkins more. As he spoke to Mannix, the Mexican-American fighter likewise gave Canelo the advantage as he put emphasis on the 29-year-old’s balance of power, experience, and youth as the main factors in ending the third affair as early as possible.

“How can I not agree with ‘The Executioner’ to execute a game plan?” said Mora. “This is a living legend in Bernard Hopkins. He knows better than anybody. I agree. Twenty-four rounds, these guys know each other too well. We have to favor the younger, fresher fighter Canelo for a stoppage.”

The Latin Snake also noted the rivalry has since become personal for both Canelo and Triple G. With Alvarez aiming to stamp his mastery over Golovkin, who, on the other hand, is carrying a huge chip on his shoulder, Mora said there should be no doubt that the third fight will end without the help of the judges’ scorecards.

“He will be going for a stoppage. They’ll both will be going for the knockout. Golovkin, we know he has the power to end this fight early as well. There’s too much bad blood, too much animosity,” More continued.

“They’ve been avoiding each other. Canelo has been trying to move away from this fight, and Golovkin has been pursuing it. Now they’re going to have to wait a little bit longer, but the anticipation, the frustration, the anger that’s pent up, I think this fight ends by knockout.”

Boxing remains infinitely suspended as the smoke brought by the Coronavirus has yet to be cleared. But despite the uncertainty, Alvarez is keeping his hopes high for a return to fight action in September, which he reportedly prefers to be against Golovkin.
