KEY POINTS

  • Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua showdown will take place in the Middle East
  • Promoter Eddie Hearn says everything is set except for contract signing
  • Deontay Wilder is expected to continue pursuing trilogy fight with Fury

The next opponent of Tyson Fury has been practically settled. The “Gypsy King” will face Anthony Joshua next although the official document sealing the blockbuster showdown has yet to be signed.

Regardless, promoter Eddie Hear bared that everything has been practically settled aside from that. That includes the financial elements of the deal, while the broadcast situation is now being discussed.

"The deal is done, really -- without being signed," Hearn stated to The Times. "The financial elements of the deal are done. We're talking through the broadcast situation, the only thing really now is to paper it."

The Fury vs. Joshua clash is one of the most-talked-about showdowns and a clash that makes sense. The 31-year-old boxer is coming off a big win over Kubrat Pulev last month, allowing him to retain his IBF, WBO and WBA titles. Meanwhile, Fury holds the WBC and The Ring belts.

For his part, Fury has not fought since February 2020. He won via TKO over Deontay Wilder in the seventh round to win the WBC crown.

Further, Hearn revealed that the current arrangement would be two fights. The first one could is likely to be held in the Middle East this year. The rematch is being mapped out to be held in Britain thereafter, possibly at the Millenium Stadium according to the promoter.

"The Middle East will be aggressive and will be front-runners in this. To stage this fight, you need significant government support. You need someone who is staging this fight as a statement for their country," Hearn stated. "I'd like it [the rematch] to be [in the United Kingdom]. Where? Millennium Stadium."

The announcement comes days after promoter Bob Arum practically shut the door on a potential trilogy between Fury and Deontay Wilder on Barbershop Conversations.

Wilder had a rematch clause following his loss to Fury in February 2020. But with the pandemic complicating matters that right expired according to Arum. The 35-year-old aggravated things a bit when he accused the Briton of cheating, DAZN reported.

“He (Fury) regards it not only as a slur against him but against the Gypsy nation,” Arum stated.
