  • Floyd Mayweather taunts Conor McGregor
  • McGregor said he'll beat Mayweather if a rematch happens
  • Mayweather has hinted at a comeback since November 2019

Floyd Mayweather is back in the boxing gym, and so are his antics. The undefeated retired fighter teased his fans anew as he hinted at a potential rematch against Conor McGregor for his speculated return to the combat scene.

According to a report from The Sun, Mayweather was heard taunting the MMA superstar during a workout session documented in an Instagram live.

"Where he (McGregor) at? He don't want this," the 43-year-old said.

Notably, Mayweather's last fight before his retirement was against McGregor in August 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada where the boxing legend took the Irish star to school, winning the mega bout via a 10th round stoppage.

Since then, Mayweather has opted to hang it up, whilst McGregor decided to go back to the UFC. The latter’s return to the octagon, however, was not a welcome sight as he submitted to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fourth round of their fight in 2018.

After taking a personal break, McGregor returned in 2020 and fought like he never left. The 31-year-old needed just 40 seconds into the first round to defeat Donald Cerrone during their bout in January, making the “Notorious” the first UFC fighter to hold knockout finishes in the featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions.

But despite his latest triumph, McGregor is not dismissing yet another crossover to boxing for a possible rematch against Mayweather.

"I wasn't sinking into my shots like I am now, [with] what my boxing coaches are drilling, specific boxing things they're drilling into me again," McGregor told ESPN in January. "I know I beat Floyd, I'd beat Floyd if we rematched, when we rematch. I would like to box him. I think that would be a good rematch."

Mayweather sparked the comeback talks when he announced in November that he would be "coming out of retirement in 2020." The announcement came on the heels of his unplanned meeting with UFC president Dana White during an NBA game where both parties reportedly had "a deal."

That obviously has not been fulfilled yet considering the hiatus in sports caused by the Coronavirus. But once the green light is on, fight fans will be advised to brace for another blockbuster rematch ahead.
