BTS' latest studio album "BE" has officially received a triple million certification from Gaon Charts for selling over three million copies since its release.

The Gaon Music Chart, which is similar to the Billboard Charts in the U.S. and Oricon Charts in Japan, tabulates the popularity of albums and songs in South Korea. It was implemented by the Korea Music Content Association and sponsored by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In 2018, a new certification system for album sales, song downloads and online streaming was introduced in which albums that reach 250,000 in sales received a "platinum" certification while those that managed to sell over a million copies received a "million" certification.

According to an announcement made by Gaon Chart on Thursday, BTS' "BE" album, which was originally released on Nov. 20, 2020, received a triple million certificate for its remarkable achievement in sales.

Previously, BTS' album titled "Map of the Soul: Persona" made history by becoming the first-ever album to achieve the triple million certification by reaching the milestone in less than two months since its official release.

In the streaming category, three new singles including Kim Na Young's "To Be Honest," Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’s "Senorita," and Oh My Girl's "Nonstop" were certified platinum for surpassing 100 million streams.

According to Soompi, boy group NCT’s album titled "NCT 2018 Empathy," which was released in 2018, received an official double platinum certification for selling over 500,000 copies since. NCT Dream’s mini-album "We Go Up" also sold about 250,000 copies and received a platinum certification.

K-pop group boy group TREASURE, which debuted in 2019 under YG Entertainment, successfully achieved its first-ever Gaon platinum certifications for two of its albums titled "The First Step: Chapter One" and “The First Step: Treasure Effect."

On the other hand, according to the Recording Industry Association of Japan, BTS' "The Best of BTS: Japan Edition" album, a compilation featuring Japanese versions of BTS songs that was released on Jan. 6, 2017, and NCT 127’s second Japanese mini-album titled "Loveholic" that was released on Feb. 17, 2021, successfully achieved gold certification in Japan for reaching 100,000 shipment units.
