BTS' "Butter" has been declared as Billboard's Song of the Summer for the year 2021 after the track proved its worth by staying on the chart for more than 10 weeks.

"Butter," an upbeat take on the cool vibe of summer, which has occupied the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart for 10 weeks and counting, dominated the Songs of the Summer chart. It edged out its closest competitor, Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U," which is summer's second hottest hit, followed by Dua Lipa's "Levitating, " which claimed the No. 3 spot and Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More, which ended up at No. 4. Meanwhile, The Weekend and Ariana Grande's "Save Your Tears" landed at No. 5.

Lil Nas X's "Montero (Call Me by Your Name) came next at No. 6, while Rodrigo's "Deja Vu" is at No. 7. Justin Bieber's "Peaches," which also features Daniel Caesar and Giveon, grabbed the No. 8 spot, while Bruno Mars' collab with Silk Sonic and Anderson .Paak, "Leave the Door Open," settled at No. 9. Finally, The Kid LAROI and Bieber's "Stay" grabbed the No. 10 spot.

The Songs of the Summer chart tallies the 20 hottest tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 based on weekly streaming, airplay and sales from Memorial Day through Labor Day (June 12 to Sept. 11 this year), according to Billboard.

In its announcement, Billboard forgot to acknowledge the role of "Butter" collaborator Megan Thee Stallion in catapulting the track back to the No. 1 when the remixed version of the song came out on Aug. 27.

Shortly after, BTS fans, collectively known as "ARMY," began flooding the social media with posts honoring the American rapper's contribution to the smash hit's success and making the topic "Megan" trend on Twitter.

"Even though the Hot 100 chart didn't officially credit Megan (because the OG/remixes got more consumption), the Big Hit Music and BTS' accounts did. Thank you. @theestallion," a fan wrote.

This initiative from the group's loyal fans earned the respect of many netizens.

One of them even noted, "Jason d*rulo got that savage love #1 repeak using the bts feature and he didn't even thank them once but butter og version repeaked and bts still mentioned megan and their gratitude to her on every tweet about their #1. bts truly are a class act."

Eventually, Billboard credited Stallion in sending "Butter" back to the No. 1.

"BTS 'Butter' resurges to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a 10th total week at the summit following the release of its new remix with Megan Thee Stallion #BillboardNews," Billboard said in its tweet.
