Ever since they started singing in English, Korean boyband BTS’ fame has skyrocketed to new heights and international fans have gladly joined the loyal “ARMY” fandom. Now, the group has added yet another feather to its cap after “Butter” was officially named Twitter’s Song of Summer in 2021.

BTS competed with the likes of Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa and even Ed Sheeran for having the most-tweeted-about song in the U.S. on Twitter from May 31 to Aug. 18, reported South China Morning Post, citing an announcement made by the microblogging site Wednesday.

Following “Butter” in the most-tweeted songs in the U.S. during the summer is Wizkid’s “Essence” including its remix featuring Justin Bieber, which came in at the second spot followed by “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X featuring Jack Harlow on the third spot.

In the fourth place is “Stay” by The Kid Laroi featuring Justin Bieber and the fifth is “Yanaguni” by Bad Bunny.

The other most-tweeted songs in the U.S. in the summer are “Peaches” by Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar which placed at No. 6, “Thot Sh*t” By Megan Thee Stallion at No. 7, “Good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo at No. 8, “Levitating” by Dua Lipa at No. 9 and “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran at No. 10.

BTS’ “Butter” was released in May and stayed on top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for seven weeks before briefly bowing to another BTS song, “Permission to Dance,” which debuted at No. 1 in July pushing “Butter” down to No. 7 for a week.

“Butter” bounced back to No. 1 shortly after and BTS became the first act to replace their own song with another No. 1 since rapper Drake in 2018.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, “Butter” came on top of Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart with just a week left before it officially seals its place as the No. 1 hit in the summer of 2021.

“Butter” is closely followed by Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 u,” which has also maintained a strong position in the charts by sitting comfortably at No. 2 for 11 weeks.

The top 20 Songs of the Summer is formed by tallying the most popular songs based on weekly streaming data, airplay data and sales-based information, which also make up the basis for the tracks entering the Billboard Hot 100.

Next week, Billboard will officially announce this year's hottest hit of the summer.
