Camilla Parker Bowles was styled as the Princess of Wales after she married Prince Charles, who is the Prince of Wales. But Camilla didn’t use the title out of respect for Princess Diana, who was also styled as such when she was still married to Prince Charles.

On the online forum site Quora, a royal fan asked if now is the right time for the Duchess of Cornwall to start using the Princess of Wales title. After all, it technically belongs to her.

Elora Flynn, a history enthusiast, said that it has taken Camilla a very long to rehabilitate her public image as the dutiful wife of the future King. As such, opting to go for the lesser title of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall was a strategy.

Due to this, Flynn said that there’s absolutely no reason for the mom of two to suddenly use the Princess of Wales title.

“There’s nothing good to come out of changing her style, aside from massaging the ego of someone who doesn’t appear to want or need any ego massaging. It would just invite useless speculation and gutter journalism about how disrespectful it might be of Diana’s memory or speculation about what Harry/William/their wives/others think of Camilla,” she said.

William Smith, a polymath, said that Camilla actually made the right decision by not using the title of Princess of Wales because this just earned her more respect from the public. Smith also said that it would be more surprising if Kate Middleton would refuse the title when Prince William becomes Prince of Wales.

Royal fan Neil Follett said that now is not the right time for Camilla to use the title of Princess of Wales.

“To be honest, I’m not sure the public would be ready for Her Majesty Queen Camilla if/when the time arrives. Her husband peddled the option of The Princess Consort which I think is in a lot of people’s minds. People still remember Diana. And if they remember her, they will remember the part Camilla played in the breakup of her marriage,” he said.
